What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a branch of traditional medicine that has been practised in China and the far east for thousands of years. It has been developed, tested, researched and refined to give a detailed understanding of the body’s energetic balance. Traditional acupuncture from a western perspective has steadily grown in popularity in the UK since the 1970s.

Traditional acupuncture is a healthcare system based on ancient principles that back date two thousand years.

Applied in the 21st century, it is a very positive model of good health and function and has a grounded perspective of pain and illness as signs that the body is out of balance.

Therefore the aim of acupuncture is to restore the body and mind equilibrium. This is achieved through listening, asking, touching and the insertion of very fine sterilised needles into specific points on the body.
